Can waterbeds really improve sleep?

By Jennifer Dobbs

Ever thought of how it feels to sleep on water? Well, its time you tried the waterbed mattress that comes in a number of varieties in the market.

A waterbed mattress, like the name signifies is a mattress filled with water. A number of factors are to be considered before one chooses a type of mattress. A number of waterbed mattresses are available out in the market and we have to choose the one best suited for our needs.

The primary factors to be considered before buying a waterbed mattress are its firmness and the type of construction. The waterbed mattresses are of the following types owing to the type of construction: hard sided and soft side. Hard sided water beds come with a frame work like a strong wooden support. They have special linings to prevent water leakage. Soft sided beds are those which can be placed in existing frame works.

According to the firmness, the waterbed mattresses are classified as the following: Free flow, fiber filled waterbed and hydraulic waterbeds. Free flow as the name suggests are waterbeds in which the water is filled in one single compartment. These waterbeds are not suited for people who look for some support while sleeping, as they tend to change their change with unequal weight distribution.

Fiber fill waterbed mattresses are those with reinforced with fiber and water is filled in the compartment with the fiber. These mattresses are firmer and suited for people who look for a support while sleeping.

Hydraulic waterbed mattresses are those with a number of vinyl coils filled in the compartment. These types of waterbeds actually don't have water in the compartment, but water is filled in the vinyl coils that have ports in them. This is a recent development in the waterbed technology. These type of waterbeds are firmer and don't change their shape when a person tosses or turns. They are relatively expensive compared to the free flow and the fiber filled types.

Whatever the mattress be, all that matters is a comfortable sleep. So, make the right choice in choosing a waterbed and make sure you get a sound sleep.
