Antiques of Tomorrow - What are they?

Antiques are defined as an item 100 years or older. It may be collected or considered collectible due to its age, rarity, condition, utility or some other unique feature. It may be representative of a bygone, old fashioned era.

Considerable degrees of craftsmanship and attention to design are features that give objects their unique identity as antiques. Early automobiles and desks are examples of antiques. These objects are generally found in antique shops. They are often also passed down as an estate. Valuable antiques can now be purchased online from the dealers and auction services through their websites. Antique dealers are often found to be members of national trade associations.

Antique Styles

In the past century, vintage styles have made a comeback of sorts. A vintage or antique style is found in new items, and this is typically called a reproduction. In fact, it's sometimes difficult to tell the difference between reproductions and authentic antique items. Antique pieces not only have a nostalgic feel but they also can be a great investment. Well taken care of antiques retain their values very well and can also experience dramatic increases in values.

Antiques of tomorrow may can include toys, clothes, equipment, tools, furniture, dolls, china and many other items. Antique furniture's many uses and practicality make antique furniture a very popular item for collecting. Also, dining tables, armoires, dressers, bureaus, chests, kitchen tables and even couches are also examples of antique furniture. Common woods for antique furniture are mahogany, oak, pine, rosewood and walnut. Elm is a wood often used in antique furniture from China. These particular woods all have a distinctive color and grain. Many modern furniture pieces use wood veneers, laminates or inlaid wood designs to achieve similar wood effects, without the expense. Many styles of antique furniture differ depending on the country or region that they were made. Common types of antique furniture are in a Georgian, Arts and Crafts, Victorian or Regency style.
